The root of evil in this country has taken hold & sprouted into many directions. Yes the hate was there, but it was hidden and spoken in hushed tones. Trump has allowed and encouraged hateful behavior in exponential ways. That is not a pass to anyone who espouses these same views, it’s a fuck you.

Even the president of the United States must answer to authorities.

The US government has three branches that
keep each other in check:

• The executive (run by the president)
• The legislative (Congress)
• The judiciary (the courts)

On plenary power:

• Definition of plenary authority: Plenary authority means complete and absolute power over a specific matter with no limitations.
While the U.S. government has some plenary powers (for example, Congress's authority over immigration), those powers are assigned to different branches, not consolidated in the presidency.

• Constitutional limits: A president's power is always subject to constitutional limits and the oversight of both Congress and the judiciary.
The landmark Supreme Court decision in
Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer (1952) established that a president's power must come from either the Constitution or an act of Congress.

• No "plenary power" over citizens: Courts have repeatedly rejected arguments that the Commander-in-Chief clause gives the president independent authority to interfere with the rights and duties of U.S. civilians. In 2025, a federal judge blocked a Trump administration order to deploy National Guard troops in Oregon without the state's consent, reaffirming that the president's power is not absolute.

Yesterday on CNN Stephen Miller said Trump has plenary authority. If you watch the video, you can tell it was a slip of the tongue — he instantly froze up after realizing he’d said the quiet part out loud.

Just to be clear, Trump does not have plenary power — yet.
