Also Janeway was the best captain.

Come for me Trek people. I'll be waiting.

I'm a Wars guy more than a Trekkie. But largely I really really love both and only prefer Star Wars marginally.

HOWEVER.

Some of you have started suggesting Andor is equivalent to Deep Space Nine.

This is objectively incorrect. Andor is far better than a shit sitcom at a space petrol station.

Lots of things remain constant in the universe forever. And one of those things is that young Tories are really really weird.

If you don't need developers cos AI can build what you're offering, then what are you offering that nobody else can just magic up?

If you don't need devs, it's quite possible ordinary people (also non-devs) don't need you either.

I'll be speaking at droidcon London with my talk:
"Systems Design interviews for people who hate systems design interviews."

The crow won't be at the talk, sorry. It's a hooded crow and I can't transport that on a flight.

If it was completely black, however, I could have had it as my carrion.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

I mean sure, go after the rise of uncivil online discourse, but don't pretend it's on this one single platform. I can type "cisgender" here without having my tweet hidden by the platform.

I'll forever be amazed at this prevailing narrative that Bluesky is some siloed cocoon of unpleasant people that go after you if you don't conform to a certain mindset vs... *checks notes*... Musk's Twitter.

The worst thing about Chat Control is that it won't even ensnare the people the law is built for.

Those distributing CSAM will easily find another means of doing so. Does that break the law? Yes. But so does distributing CSAM. They don't care about that.

Meanwhile, innocent people get the impact.

In Germany you face legal restrictions filming or recording on-duty police officers.

That ordinary citizens should be subject to every digital message being scanned really does exemplify how "Freiheit" is a meaningless word in this country. A luxury afforded to the powerful and privileged.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

A backdoor to your encrypted messages isn't just a backdoor for governments, it's a backdoor for everyone.

Everything you send will be scanned. It's the digital equivalent to a government employee listening in on every phone call you make.

And state officials are exempt. One rule for them...

I'm giving a talk at the Unicorns In Tech Summit next Saturday: "How my ADHD made me a better engineering manager".

This will be a tough talk to give given that lately I'm finding things are increasingly getting much much harder. But I hope it'll be useful.

Good morning from me and this hungry little buddy.
Me with a crow on my head eating peanuts out of my hand. The crow's mouth is very full.

Sorry, for non German speakers: the article talks about "Chatkontrolle" - basically the demands from government to be able to intercept or "have a backdoor" to encrypted messaging systems. Forgetting (or ignoring) of course that a backdoor for someone is a backdoor for everyone.
chrisward.de
Oh, and that's ignoring the fact that you can't really achieve these without banning encrypted communications in general - which is tantamount to putting everybody in prison because then there'd be no more crime.
chrisward.de
Nah it's fine thanks. I will work it into the talk though to make it honest. :) and yes those are the common strengths. Just at the moment the environment triggers the worst of the weaknesses. Thank you for the response, it was very nice. ❤️

Same! I remember the first job I had where my appraisal said "incredible organisational skills". Literally every school report, uni tutor feedback and all appraisals from the majority of my career said precisely the opposite.

But damn, tech is bringing out the worst in the old ADHD at the mo...
