Amateur dilettante. I am serious, and don't call me Shirley. Je suis Marxiste, tendance Groucho.
1) I don't have sufficient expertise in NY politics, but the point generalises. My guess is that it was directed at the corporate wing of the Democrats
2) No they're not about civility. They're about cruelty. That's the point, that's what's behind the mask.

So your point is, if the government had listened to the people affected, and properly understood, they might have designed a policy that did both things. But now they've missed the opportunity.

Liberal centrists who regard themselves as the sensible grown ups while engaging in performative cruelty towards, eg, disabled people, trans people, the poor.
Starmer and Reeves claiming a "moral case" for cutting PIP payments to avoid raising tax.
Labour's immigration policy.

But why? Why is a business generating £50k pa worth £5m? Who is it that is buying farms for a 1% return, rather than just putting it in the bank?
Could it be tax avoiders?

"analysis of NHS data by the PA Media news agency". Journalists reporting other journalists, when there's already proper research that shows the true reason.

"In later life Wittgenstein was keen not to end up just writing a series of aphorisms. He explained why not in an aphorism: ‘Raisins may be the best part of a cake; but a bag of raisins is not better than a cake.’ (I call this Wittgenstein’s ‘Critique of Pure Raisin’)."

So why are you so keen to emulate them?

Labour’s shift away from “immigration is good but it needs to be managed” to “it is bad” is a gift to essentially everyone they compete with, because it means that they don’t have the right position to be able to attack *anyone*.
I'm sorry, but these attacks are just not going to convince Green-curious voters, because Labour is so visibly out of step with those voters' core values

I'm not an economist so there might be glaring methodological errors that I'm not seeing, but it seems aligned with www.cbsnews.com/news/cost-of...
Maybe the way to think about it is: if it is true, what does it tell you about current US politics?
Most Americans don't earn enough to afford basic costs of living, analysis finds
The bottom 60% of U.S. households don't make enough money to afford a "minimal quality of life," according to a new analysis.

Isn't one of the issues that organising resources requires managers to do the coordination. However politicians have used the rhetoric of 'protecting the front line' and cut management capacity.
The hypothetical restaurant would have the managers it needed to stay in business.

What's your view on @steveakehurst.bsky.social research saying not improving public services etc, is worse?

Ahead of Budget, where do voters stand on tax and the dilemmas facing government?

Big new @persuasionuk.bsky.social report out today on this.

TL;DR as risky as breaching the manifesto is for Lab - failing on public services, cost of living and child poverty is *far riskier* for Lab.

Some Amazon deliveries do this. You can watch a map of where the van is, and where you are in the queue.

A thing I keep thinking about is I can't think of any good films from the 80s. Not films that make you nostalgic for your youth, but just good films. Compare with 70s or 90s.
There have to be films you want to see. 80s was studios taking back control after 70s indie movie brats. Maybe.

How exactly do you buttress a foundation? Where is it the buttresses go? Do they stop the foundations falling over? In what circumstances do foundations need buttresses?
