Elon Musk’s rise has put South Africa in focus. A new film explores how bigotry spread in his home country — and offers warnings about the United States as well.

I'm not ready for classes to start next week, but at least I'm excited about all of my classes. Practicum on Swinburne's personal library with my advisor, 3D digitization, and a class on Mexico looking at colonialism and spatial studies. A weird, but fun assemblage of classes!

Fun teaching we continued with MA cohort where they designed board games to represent the spatial imaginaries of settler colonialism and imperialism. One of the groups designed shipboard periodicals to be the bonus cards
Started today’s Fiction & Financial Crises class in UCD Classics Museum looking at their amazing coin collection. Feeling the weight of the coins was such a useful way to get students to think about the crisis of representation & value that paper currency can create. & how literature can intervene

Despite affirmative action policies implemented in 🇿🇦 since 1994, the failure to reverse urban spatial segregation imposed by colonial/apartheid system has resulted in: language policies for school admissions have served as discriminatory mechanisms that hinder transformative synergies within society
Education curriculum and laguage policies are the most contested in 🇿🇦. Recent amendment of Basic Education Act (BELA) raised big concern for minorities: a centralisation of power and threatening the autonomy of schools when it comes to language policies.
