I don't really come here any more sorry!
@durumcrustulum.com There are several Internet-Drafts I'm excited about on your Github (X-Wing, PQ HPKE) but sadly they all seem to be expired and the "Editor's Copy" goes to a 404. What's happening here, will these efforts come back to life?

These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer.

These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP.

My id used to be ciphergoth dot bsky dot social, then I changed it to ciphergoth dot org. Now my old ID is ... retweeting my posts? What's going on? Surely when I move my ID, it sets up a redirect rather than letting someone take the old ID?

Some people sort of absurdly rotate between this posture of being nice in person and then dunking online for the approval of their friends, then apologizing and say they don’t really mean it, then doing it again, and you quickly realize they are simply unable to resist any social pressure at all

At Manifest (?) @benlandautaylor said that being on the edge of bankruptcy is a fine place for a large, functional non-profit.

I think he gets bayes points for that. Lightcone is $139k off their lowest target.

It's slightly odd that people come here because they think that Twitter is too awful, when Bluesky's most important product differentiation over Twitter is "On Bluesky, death threats are A-OK!" x.com/davidshor/st...

Sorry to be the one to pull this card but I have basically zero trust for the results of a poll done by a bunch of inexperienced people who contracted out to Pollfish and picked an obviously highly attention seeking topic to launch their new “think tank”
BREAKING: In First Poll Released Since Killing, Young Americans Favor Luigi Mangione over UnitedHealthcare & Slain CEO Brian Thompson

Young Americans have a higher net approval of Mangione (-10%) than of Brian Thompson (-24%), UnitedHealthcare (-31%), and the health insurance industry (-34%).

I think more than being correct this is almost the entire explanation for politics in 2024. The ease of digital publishing and ludicrous increase in screen time means that people are, more than ever, living in a world shaped to activate them emotionally - in practice, by inducing rage and despair.

Some wild, terrifying, but wholly unverified stuff about the South Korean coup going around!
This is not verified. A lawmaker asked about it during a hearing and military officials denied it as baseless. While we can certainly question their honesty, they have been honest about a lot of things so far.

This is not a quadrilemma exclusively for private insurance -- in countries with some form of single payer, the same point applies. Most (like the UK) will make procedures unavailable when they don't think the benefit justifies the cost, regardless of what your doctor thinks.

I always think it’s like a little gift to the far-right every time this sort of thing happens.

Because they can then say: See! I told you libs are intolerant. Come on over to us, where we’re not going to judge you for having normie opinions.
