As Mad as any Hatter: The Communist Eccentricity of Robert Wyatt
In April 2012, I went to see Tony Herrington interview the musician Robert Wyatt at Café Oto in Dalston. All these years later I can still remember quite a lot of what Wyatt said, for example about…

They should invent a social media app where you can meet people who share your interests while staying in touch with your friends 👍

Absolutely incredible turnout for Budapest Pride! So proud of all the organizers, including some old friends, who estimate hundreds of thousands— major embarrassment to Orban

This is 25 year old Parnia Abassi. She was an English teacher and a poet. She was killed alongside her younger brother and parents in Israel's attacks on residential areas in Iran last night.

Say their names. Share their stories. Don't let them erase the legacy of their aggression.

Not to mention the other resources that made the artistic breakthroughs of mid century possible: free time, cheap housing, a whole middle layer of cultural organisations and institutions that has since been burned through
Death is a fact of life, but in the death of recent musicians like Sly Stone and Brian Wilson there is also a matter of mourning the fact that the conditions that gave rise to them no longer exist. The age of streaming does not seem to support musicians at all, let alone innovative ones.

Sorry, you can't call Trump a fascist one minute and then complain about the 'violence' in LA the next. This uprising is the first encouraging news from the US in years

Are they going to reissue that collection of Brechts poetry or what? It seems like the only thing you can get in English is a very slim selected poems

Read the first couple pages of that Abundance book. Leaving aside the blandness of liberal utopia (star trek technology supports the same old social relations): if you think you're getting any of that stuff without some kind of workers' movement then you must be on space crack

I'm not unsympathetic to some of what Pen and Citarella have to say, but: 'the hippies became neoliberals' is just not serious analysis

It'd be nice to at least see some intellectual honesty from Jacobin types when engaging with the history of the new left. It's not true, as I just heard one of them claim in an interview, that they saw college students being 'the world's most oppressed'
