There is one panel dedicated to a Native man, Chief Heap of Birds, and he is shown in the American military uniform he was forced to wear at the order of Richard Henry Pratt. Pratt refined his ideas for "civilizing" Native people at the fort, and then opened Carlisle Boarding School in 1879.

I'm in St Augustine for a talk and a roundtable, so this morning I went to pay my respects to the Native men imprisoned at Fort Marion after 1875. They are almost entirely erased from the space.
