NVIDIA earnings were a mirage. The market figured it out surprisingly fast. NVIDIA bump evaporated.

I don’t know how this information can enter the system without exploding the bubble.

But sometimes bezzles visible for months before crash.

In class today, a student asked me how many Holy Prepuces (the supposed circumcised foreskin of the infant Jesus, venerated as a relic) were floating around in medieval Europe. I didn't know the exact number, looked it up, and stumbled across this fun fact.

Surely one of history's weirder jobs?

Apple is shoving AI into *other companies' apps* now. Give me a break.
Unlike most apps these days, Scrivener does not use AI in any way. However, if you’re on a Mac, you may see an AI prompt.

There's no way Trump and the Republicans are rolling over on the Epstein files unless they know there's damage control going on somewhere. Someone's shredding or redacting wildly.

The very idea that Larry Summers is disgraced enough to step back from "public life" but not from teaching is sending me through the roof today. Get that predator OUT.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

Alice is the gold standard of what Twitter was when it was great - how you could just find these brilliant, remarkable people with the kind of voices that rarely get platformed or taken seriously, and hear about their lives in their own words without intruding on them or demanding emotional labor
Watching disabled people around the world mourn Alice is a reminder of the good aspect of the internet. 30 years ago, few people outside of SF would ever have known Alice existed. I never would have met her. The internet connected us all. Let’s honor Alice’s memory by using that power and community.
My social media is wall-to-wall love for the incomparable Alice Wong, and I need more words. What captures sadness and/also affection for a community that knows what's been lost?

This is heartbreaking. Sending warmth to everyone who loved her.
I am gutted to learn of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social (Alice Wong’s) passing. She was always a warm friend, a wonderful spirit, and someone who fostered my own growth. She helped me see that, as a #disabled person with chronic illness, I matter—I am whole. I’ll be posting some of Alice’s work. ❤️ forever

One of the most important things I took away from @karencosta.bsky.social and @niyamirandabond.bsky.social's webinar on asynchronous online instruction in the AI era yesterday was that we cannot "fix" the AI situation.

This right here. How we are responding to this crisis is a fucking disaster.

Skilled teachers are being forced to teach from a box written by people who do not know the kids in front of that teacher & more than likely written by people who do not look like those kids nor understand their talents.
It is actually so insane that two sides on offer are “old guy who says we read via vibes” and “moral panic fueled policies advocating for state mandated adoption of boxed curricula based on a podcast people listened to once.” The crisis is a crisis. How we respond to the crisis is also a crisis.

I'm an American Studies grad from Nottingham, and the beneficiary of an AmStuds/History fellowship that launched me into grad school in the U.S. I literally wouldn't have the career I have without it.
Please support and share this petition to help save American Studies teaching at The University of Nottingham. Staff are facing redundancy. The expertise that would be lost would be monumental. Please sign.

Crazy idea: Why not, rather than spending $5 TRILLION dollars to pay for data centers to create fake brains, just pay actual human beings with real brains that same $5 trillion?

When you are using the "AI" framing, does the way you talk about "AI" carry water for the Sam Altmans of the world? That is, are you helping to paint a picture of their tech as inevitable, all powerful, and/or anything other than commercial products?
