Look at this gorgeous cover for Keywords/Keyimages in Graphic Medicine!! Thanks to Ian Williams for giving us permission to use his image on the cover, which captures brilliantly the concept & structure of the book. Briana Martino (@briwok.bsky.social) & I are grateful & thrilled!

Book cover for Keywords/Keyimages in Graphic Medicine edited by Lisa Diedrich and Briana Martino. The image on the cover is from Ian Williams, & is a version of an image from his book The Bad Doctor, a graphic narrative based on his own experience with OCD. A boy is in bed with his hands folded in prayer & his thoughts take the form of a sefirot surrounding his head.

Did not know that. Where was he from? Yugoslavia?!

I donated some copies of Let This Radicalize You for distribution at an ICE watch training for folks who want to join school patrols in a nearby neighborhood. Not everyone got a copy, because 120 people showed up for that training tonight. I am endlessly proud of Chicago.
A display of copies of Let This Radicalize You on a table in front of a sign that reads: "Let This Radicalize You offers stories, strategy and heart for the kind of collective care and resistance we're building together today. It helps us move from reacting to organizing. Showing how ordinary people protect each other, build power, and keep hope alive. Take a copy. Read it. Stay connected."

That’s some power! Use it wisely.
I was not watching but saw the clip &, wow, that’s Bill-Buckner-between-the-legs bad.

Andrew Cuomo keeps saying he’s the only candidate who can take on Trump once he’s in office.

Yet in his statement about the indictment of Letitia James, the highest-ranking Black elected official in the state, he doesn’t even mention Trump by name….and, more importantly, he doesn’t mention James.

In a democracy, the rule of law must be sacred - impartial, objective, and above politics. When the law is weaponized or manipulated to advance political agendas, it erodes public trust and weakens the very foundation of justice. Whether it comes from the right or the left, from prosecutors or politicians, the politicization of law enforcement is dangerous and corrosive.
We must restore faith in fairness, facts, and due process - because once justice becomes partisan, everyone loses.

I saw Mamdani's strong statement in support of AG James. Has Cuomo said anything about the weaponization of DOJ or the spurious indictment against James?

NY Attorney General Letitia James: “I am a proud woman of faith, & I know that faith & fear cannot share the same space. And so today I am not fearful, I am fearless, and as my faith teaches me, no weapon formed against me shall prosper.”

AG James's statement is, as expected, 🔥🔥🔥: “This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system. He is forcing federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding, all because I did my job as the NY Attorney General." ag.ny.gov/press-releas...

New Yorkers know Attorney General James for who she is: a champion for justice who fights relentlessly for the people. Donald Trump knows her only as an obstacle to his corruption.

My full statement:
New Yorkers know Attorney General James for who she is: a champion for justice who fights relentlessly for the people. Donald Trump knows her only as an obstacle to his corruption.

No one should be surprised that Donald Trump is employing fascist tactics—prosecuting his opponents, weaponizing the federal government, and attacking the very fabric of our democracy. And Trump should not be surprised when millions of Americans stand up to his authoritarianism and his greed.

If Trump wants to leverage baseless charges to visit political retribution on New York’s Attorney General, he’ll have to go through New Yorkers first. The Attorney General has had our back, time and again. We have hers.

No intelligence is general, as the term refers (indirectly & vaguely) to a cluster of distinct capabilities in a given active organism, which vary according to ecological niche, embodiment, cultural valuation and individual variation. We’d get better science by decomposing and testing for these. 3/3

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

I’m no expert, but that AI accounts for 40% of US GDP seems like A LOT of eggs in one basket.

And whether they’ll ever be able to produce enough revenue is a looming question. A startling report by researchers at MIT spooked investors in August, finding that only a measly five percent of AI pilot programs help businesses succeed at “rapid revenue acceleration,” with the vast majority falling flat.

Yet according to recent estimates, generative AI now accounts for roughly 40 percent of the United States’ gross domestic product. In other words, if the AI spending boom falls apart, it could take down the entire economy with it.

The “compact” for higher ed is an unserious document written by unserious people from a position of spectacular ignorance. No one should take it seriously. Sadly, my bosses are taking it seriously.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’
