Because my grandmother was an adult before she got the right to vote, and because I was an adult before the first female supreme court justice got appointed, and because some of the older women I know don't think they'll ever see a female president, and some MAGA dicks think women shouldn't vote.

...because 'marital rape' wasn't a concept until feminism made it one and it wasn't illegal in all fifty states until 1993, because marriage was perpetual consent, aka he owned you.

I would presume it's something like: "Femaleness is contagious when exposed on an ongoing basis and ongoing relationships involve cooperation, which is unmanly. Real men just pounce and then scuttle on their hind limbs and fore-knuckles back to the man cave."

I've had fake quotes attributed to me and then a whole flock of AI-written posts about me that were a bit weird and distorted. (Thanks so much, boy wonders of the Valley of Silicon; your noble utopian dreams are uplifting, just like you promised.)
"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe
"The humanities really are a resource — a confidence for living in our times.” Dean Sara Guyer on the modern utility of humanities degrees

It's like Mamdani pushed his shopping cart up and down the aisles of Trump's mind and loaded up on stuff to bring back to his city. Protecting his city from ICE even before he takes office is huge (I mean, obviously Trump is a man of his word salad, but it was worth a try; see link below).
Laura Loomer and a lot of MAGA are in shambles, Trump says he loves Mamdani now and will be cheering for him. Will consider their conversation about ICE and supports his housing plan for low income families. Also stated that he’d happily live in New York with him as mayor and that he’s a good guy.

I guess Russia and Saudi Arabia will be their beacons of....human rights.

@pluralistic.net.web.brid.gy /Cory Doctorow's Little Brother is great.

And yeah, everything in the description is human rights.

It's been infuriating to see all the pundit-dude denial that misogynoir played any role, & that with myriad disadvantages she came so close means that she did well. Also fun that almost all such analysis amounts to "she should have embraced my exact position," be it centrist, left, whatever.

So thanks and amen and also damn, @emorwee.bsky.social

Everything that threatens the status quo upsets the top beneficiaries of the status quo, including women's rights, anti-racism, environmental protection, climate action, any mild redistribution of wealth, etc. and that's been true at least since 19th c. opposition to abolition and women's suffrage.

Immodestly: Mainstream discourse blames the excesses of the right on liberals, the left, feminists, Black Lives Matter, affirmative action, environmental protection, and BIPOC and LGBTQ people. It's a way that the right is granted masculine prerogatives and the left feminine responsibilities...

which is why I was boasting to a friend from Minnesota that the snowiest place in the USA is in California. Mammoth Mountain got 80 feet or so a winter or two ago. Snow, books, literary exiles from Nazis and Boston, etc....

The East Coast cousin of someone I know once said "Californians don't read books," and there went the UC system, San Francisco's legendary poetry scene, a bunch of Nobel laureates, and so forth. There is a version of us in which we are all airheads in bikinis under a palm tree....

I'm trying to stay out of this trashy scandal, but there is a climate angle: the dirtbag used the L.A. fires that took many lives and destroyed thousands of homes as an endless metaphor for how she wrecked her life, as in "everything is about me." Which is callous as hell.
Climate disaster is not ambiance
Especially not for an illicit affair with a politician who helped a climate-denying administration come to power.

Right down to the Santa Ana winds nonsense.

It's comparatively minor, but as a Californian, I was pissed that "west coast editor" was handed to a lifelong east coast whatever.

Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

Men control women by having "rages they couldn't control," but they control them very effectively, starting with the choice of where and when to have them.
For what it’s worth, as a commander and officer it was my duty, moral obligation, and legal requirement to first question and then to not obey any illegal order I was given.

The same is true for everyone who swear their oath.

Hope that clears things up.

I must admit that he has committed many forms of harm, not one. And I'm appalled by what he's doing to those Memphis communities.

In the Bay Area, I used to see poor youth hopping turnstiles and be glad they were using public transit. Then BART put in big gates that are probably keeping them from getting around, and free transit would've been much better for the region, which is lousy with billionaires and can afford it.
