Stephen Miller is murdering Venezuelans and Colombians in cold blood bc he believes it helps his propaganda campaign to paint Latinos as dangerous.

Stephen Miller views the air strikes as an opportunity to paint immigrants as a dangerous menace, according to one of the White House officials.

The Rutgers TPUSA chapter — whose characterization of a historian there as a “outspoken, well-known antifa member” led to death threats and moving his family to Europe — think *other* people are being “blatantly defamatory.”

Not them, though. They’re doing politics the right way.

Alexander Di Filippo accuses Turning Point USA of inciting violence against Antifa handbook author Mark Bray.

Also not Nobel.

According the victim's attorney, body camera footage captured the officer saying, “Do something, bitch,” before leaping out of the car and shooting her multiple times. Another officer asked, “Hey, what happened?” The first pointed to his camera, “Hey, don’t speak. You’re good.”

Racism, misogyny, corruption of institutions, assaults on the vulnerable, the deaths of thirty million that will transpire as a result of gutting USAID, furthering climate chaos..... The list goes on.

Third: civil society. People are really showing up, especially in L.A., Chicago, Portland. All those people standing up to ICE and standing up for the vulnerable and the rule of law.... (Super-sad that the Washington Post seems to be going to hell now, though.) #nokings

I was a columnist at Harper's during #metoo, which was apparently the bridge too far for the publisher; the magazine swung right, starting with attacks on feminism and defenses of abusers. Needless to say, I departed.

It's pope vs. president now. "The Church, like a mother, accompanies those who are walking," the pontiff writes in the document, titled "Dilexi te" (I have loved you). "She knows that in every rejected migrant, it is Christ himself who knocks at the door of the community."

The guy responsible for trying to provoke a civil war via extreme violence on elders, women, children, journalists, clergy, elected officials, workers, longtime residents, and refugees wants a Nobel Peace Prize. The same guy ordering them to murder people in boats in the Caribbean.

I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)

Things I don't even have to unpack for you. Has there ever been renaming by threat before? Could the roads be renamed Partisan Threat Way? Font of Innumerable Death Threats Way? My Way or the Highway?

There is no single way to resist; only the courage to invent one. 👍

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

Just heard @stevevladeck.bsky.social on the radio paraphrase Orwell to say that with the Trumpists 2 + 2 = 17.

Today is the 17th day in a row that House Republicans have refused to come to work.

Instead of preventing health care costs from skyrocketing, they’re preventing the Epstein files from being released.

All of us who are US citizens suffer from moral injury from the things done in our name, including the denial of basic needs this country can well afford to address, including healthcare to all immigrants. It would heal that moral injury to do this; it's an ethical act, not just a practical one.

I'm sorry, but what's wrong with giving health care to immigrants? Republicans don't even want to give health care to citizens, but I don't understand the argument against keeping people who contribute billions of dollars to the economy healthy. It's also less expensive in the long run.

If there is a mythical land called Apolitical, could everyone who believes in it and wants to live there please set out for it now?

I'm so sorry that this happened to you.

Mine was an easy pick--but also hard since there were so many to choose from in HOPE IN THE DARK by @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social:

We write history with our feet and with our presence and our collective voice and vision.
A paperback copy of HOPE IN THE DARK by Rebecca Solnit, with sunlight beaming across the black and white cover.

She wasn't in retirement. She's been gorgeously active since at least 2019 as a climate organizer with Fire Drill Fridays, has a climate PAC, and hasn't stopped acting in films. firedrillfridays.org

My white parents were big-city kids in immigrant enclaves, both 17 when WWII ended; my mom was part of a fair-housing/anti-racist town organization in the 1960s in our fairly racist Bay Area town. Categories are leaky.

Behind all that is the SFPD quiet-quitting. These tickets are issued by automated devices.

Speeding on main streets isn't an issue I'd prioritize: double parking, running stop signs and signals, not taking four-way stops in turn are some of the more dangerous things I deal with here as a driver, pedestrian, and cyclist. And speeding on very narrow side streets....
