I was an utter mess last night, and I get both watery and furious every time this story crosses my feed.

Yes I think we should shut down the government. I think we should shut down everything - the entire country should grind to a halt until the feet shuffling and hedging stops and we see action to bring this to an end and bring those responsible, at every level, to justice.

Oh lord. It would be awful.

I read like a decade later that NASA got around a dozen or so letters from Space Camp alums who ID’d the o-rings as the likely failure point.

So imagine a generation of young people armed with their giant Space Camp binders sharing their theories on TikTok. Lol.

My best friend Cindy had been to Space Camp. We watched the replays and looked through her official Space Shuttle manual. We focused on that particular joint on the SRB and talked about o-rings with my dad, who was an engineer. This was long before the o-ring failure was implicated in the explosion.

I vividly remember holding an ice pack to my head and the cold water dripping down my face while we watched the news coverage afterwards.

Our school was on holiday. I don’t remember why. I was watching it on the portable TV in my room. My sister was watching it on the TV the bonus room. Immediately after the explosion, we both ran out into the hallway and crashed into each other, bashing our heads really hard.

Yesterday I commented that many middle school students learn that sand is a size of sediment. The classroom I inherited when I first started teaching had a huge collection of sand samples from all over the world, and my students added to that collection extensively over there 12 years I taught.
