I have found some DEI programs to be overdone and silly. But I still don’t understand why the New York Times thinks it’s a good idea to publish this polemical bullshit. /end

Caldwell makes an even broader statement that DEI programs harmed the effectiveness of a range of American institutions. His evidence for this? Nada. 2/

Here Christopher Caldwell, a conservative pundit with no apparent military experience, opines that Hegseth was right to end DEI programs in the military because they harmed military readiness. He has no expertise or evidence to support that . 1/ www.nytimes.com/2025/10/07/o...

When are Democrats ever going to learn that when norms break down--as they have, comprehensively--tit-for-tat is often the dominant strategy. (And don't start whining about taking the high road, etc. Politics, as a wise man once said, ain't beanbag.).

So, imagine a 2028 that ends with a normal election and a Democratic president.

Does that president punish CBS? Does he kick it out of the Brady room's front row? Does his FCC go after its licenses? Does his FTC probe the Skydance deal?

No, probably not. No fear of reprisal if power shifts back.

Do CBS News executives understand that MAGA will not be in power forever? I genuinely think this is lost on a lot of people. They've gotten scammed by bad actors into believing Trump's 2024 win represented something seismic and even permanent. I predict they'll look back on this as a serious error.

The essay is great and it's insane that any of the targeted universities would even consider this step.

My mother always insisted on buying those, as if they were manna that appeared once annually. The only food I ever experienced that included dark chocolate but still managed to be essentially tasteless.

My pervasive skepticism of all anti-cultural-appropriation arguments may be rooted in that scene.
cjsprigman.bsky.social
That scene where Paulie Walnuts is complaining that Starbucks culturally appropriated from the Italian people is just ... chef's kiss.

As a half-Italian/American I love this leitmotif in The Sopranos so much.

I adopt this, with the proviso that because I was born in Queens and raised in a particularly uncouth part of Long Island, I may first insult your mother or your weiner or both, let that marinate for a while, and then block you.

Regular reminder that, while I welcome disagreement, I block immediately for insults.

Anyone blocked will, of course, receive a full refund.

Ads promising AI friends not going down well at W. 4th St. subway stop. These were defaced already and replaced. The first set of defacements was much funnier.

In an event, my country is New York City.

Judging, at least, by how much they appear to love “owning the libs.”

The people who seem to be the most patriotic at least superficially are also the people who seem to actively hate other Americans.

Is there anything really other than a strong economy that ties America together at this point? I mean, I don’t have any real affection for America or Americans as such. Do you?
cjsprigman.bsky.social
Any other educational institution dumb enough to follow any decision Penn makes at this point deserves whatever fresh hell they unleash on themselves.
cjsprigman.bsky.social
It's going to be a long time and require a ton of effort for Penn to redeem itself from its loathsome behavior in firing Liz Magill and in stabbing every trans person in the back like complete cowards.

"I want Penn to be seen as a leader,” Jameson said. “If we can make it easier for other institutions to follow our lead, then the whole higher education sector can move more quickly.”

I stifle a guffaw and choke on my Coke.
Jameson announces ‘Penn Forward’ strategic framework, outlines goals for University’s future
The plan — titled “Penn Forward” — comes amid mounting external pressures and intensifying questions about the value of higher education.

Solar gets cheaper every year. I know this is tough for some people to face. But it's nonetheless what's happening.
cjsprigman.bsky.social
And they think that coal is going to be competitive in a world where gas is much cheaper and renewables are even cheaper than gas?
cjsprigman.bsky.social
And why would this determine support for Trump?
cjsprigman.bsky.social
It all just seems really odd to me.
