A personal post from me. This week we'll be saying goodbye to my Mum, who passed last month. She was the most incredible lady, gentle, kind, brave, determined, full of grace and always with the most beautiful smile. Here's my favourite photo of us both, from a long time ago!

For over 25 years, science and discovery centres have been at the heart of inspiring millions of people to explore, question, and be part of UK science and technology.

But they're seriously under threat… 1/3

I had a week off and the highlight was a visit to the Farne Isles. Lots of beautiful little puffin!

I love this place, my go-to on an Arran visit. Looks like you're having a great visit!

Over 20000 jobs lost in UK Universities in 2024-2025

For context, miners' strike in 1984-85 was called over the loss of 20000 jobs

This puts into context scale of devastation presided over by @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social and Jacqui Smith

Well that’s me depressed for the weekend. As Glen acidly observes this looks like a pretty transparent effort to shift blame for coming university bankruptcies onto the institutions. Good luck with selling that to whichever MPs are about to lose their constituency’s largest employer.

Today seems to be the day that the stress of a 4 year engineering programme has hit my students. I am well supplied with tissues for tears and creme eggs for solving problems.

I've seen an entire year of this tree at Sheffield Botanics. It's a beautiful tree, I love spending time near it. In the current world, it's important to take time to appreciate the wonder still here 🥰

I have an SHO Calix cup that I love, good size and insulated. Only thing is lid is drip proof but not leak proof. shoreusable.com

Cannot wait to see what happens with our peregrines this year. They've been looking a bit chilly and windswept when visiting the ledge so far. Was wonderful to keep track of them last spring. peregrine.sites.sheffield.ac.uk
