📚 Last summer, I got a GCSE in Urdu. I'm now pursuing an A-level thanks to a brilliant novel on the Edexcel syllabus: Khadija Mastur’s Aangan (Courtyard). Read my latest column to learn more about its characters, feminist ideas, and why it’s a must-read. 🌍✍️ @shreedaisy.bsky.social

It's a new year's resolution to post on Bluesky more than my zero posts of 2024. In my defence, I've been finishing a book. In my prosecution, I'm not very good at social media. Anyway, hello world 👋

Since the discussion about whether we should listen to politicians and pundits we don’t agree with seems to be happening again, I cannot emphasise enough how I’m not here for a bracing ideological workout. If I want to challenge my own ideas, I read serious journalism or books.

It’s exactly this. I’m here for fun. I’m not getting paid. It just livens up my day to have a bit of chat with some nice, entertaining people and see Moo Deng memes.

The thing that all these “Bluesky is an echo chamber” takes leave out is that most of us aren’t here for political or philosophical debates with strangers.

Mostly it’s to socialize with friends and talk shit about stupid things. Having a Nazi yelling at you doesn’t enhance that experience.

Super helpful “Researcher’s Guide to Bluesky” by one of my brilliant colleagues who works at the University of York Library 👇

We've written a Researcher's Guide to Bluesky!

It's a bit like all those other useful guides to Bluesky, but with several useful insights from University of York academics about using the platform, and we'd love it if it was reposted far and wide...
