No, this isn't rage bait. 2025 is wrapping up, and the U.S. is still a leader in mass incarceration.

The data is clear: The U.S. criminal legal system is out of step with the rest of the world. It's time to end the failed experiment of mass incarceration, once and for all.

NEW: Federal prison workers are jumping ship & heading to ICE for better pay + bonuses. Already BOP lost >1400 people this year, reversing all of 2024’s staffing gains. It’s an unintended consequence of Trump’s push for mass deportations

Many of the problems the agency is facing now are not new, but staff and prisoners fear an exodus of officers could make life behind bars even worse.

At its best of times, work in the criminal legal system is Kafkaesque. And, lately, more often than not, it’s like it also has an axe to grind.

They’ve been running for 90 min. Average foot speed over uneven ground, barring injuries, is 4 mph. That gives us a 6 miles radius. What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in that area.

Anyone know of funds, organizations, etc to help out federal workers while they’re furloughed and/or working without pay?

Working with many federal employees, I can say they are generally hard working, good folks. I (and I hope others) want to help out as the first paychecks are missed.

My student argues a clinic case in the 7th Cir today. It’s great to see students have an opp. to see their work come to fruition and argue a case in a circuit court, something many attys never will do. It’s also nerve wracking (at least for me, the supervisor who basically can just watch) 1/2
