Clean Air Dulwich
@cleanairdulwich.bsky.social
We’re a group of local parents volunteering our time to campaign for safe and healthy streets in Dulwich.
This is what reclaiming space looks like: safer, greener, built for people — not cars.

A big win for the community, especially the hundreds of children who now have a much safer route to school. Credit to Southwark Council for challenging car dominance. Let’s keep pushing for #StreetsForPeople!

The trend towards bigger, heavier cars is worrying on many levels but especially concerning is how little visibility the driver has of what’s in front of them.

Why do some drivers struggle to avoid hitting things on the pavement?

Pedestrian spaces should be safe. It’s time we prioritised people over cars. #StreetsForPeople #EastDulwich

“If you invite more cars, you get more cars. If you make more streets better for cars you get more traffic...If you invite people to walk more and use public spaces more, you get more life in the city. You get what you invite.” - Jan Gehl

Cold weather makes engine idling pollution even more noticeable (cough, cough).

If you have to drive, please turn off your engine as soon as possible. Exhaust fumes are toxic and pose serious risks—especially to the most vulnerable among us.

Happy New Year! Here’s to a 2025 filled with positive transformations across Dulwich and Southwark - where people, not cars, come first.

We’ll continue to campaign for schemes that support active, sustainable travel for all. Let’s make it happen!

What a transformation!

Where cars once dominated, there's now a much wider pedestrian crossing that follows the natural walking path. A win for everyone! #StreetsForPeople

Another serious collision on East Dulwich Grove, outside JAGS School, highlights the urgent need for safer streets. People walking and cycling must be protected from dangerous drivers.

It’s time for a redesign that prioritises their safety. #StreetsForPeople @jamesmcash.bsky.social

✨ What a fantastic transformation! ✨

Reducing traffic on Calton Ave has created a #SafeRouteToSchool, allowing children and families to choose healthier and more sustainable ways to travel. A big step forward for our community—let’s see more initiatives like this @lb-southwark.bsky.social!

Good news: @lb-southwark.bsky.social is adding double yellow lines at Woodwarde Rd junctions to improve safety for pedestrians & cyclists. Drivers should already know not to park this close to a junction, but this change will make enforcement easier.

Glad to see the dangerous 3-point turns drivers were doing at the bottom of Court Lane have been addressed with the new permanent design.

It’s a positive step towards improving safety for everyone walking and cycling. Thank you @lb-southwark.bsky.social.

We're pleased to see the Dulwich Village CPZ has been approved & will be implemented in the new year!

Parking restrictions are a positive step towards encouraging greener, safer travel choices for everyone - especially important around schools where more children & families are walking & cycling.

Exciting to see the transformation of Dulwich Square as construction wraps up! What was once a car-dominated area has now become a vibrant, safer space for people to travel through and spend time.

A big shout-out to @lb-southwark.bsky.social for making this happen! #StreetsForPeople

Got big bags or a musical instrument to carry to school? 🎒🎻

Pannier bags are the perfect solution!

“Cycling loses its appeal in Winter”

Not in Dulwich. #SafeRoutes and a pair of warm gloves make sustainable, active travel a popular option even on extremely cold days in November ❄️🧤🥶🚲💚

Nice to see a new active travel map outside Charter East School.

The lack of a cycle lane on East Dulwich Grove is a major gap in the cycling network, and could enable many active travel journeys - especially given its proximity to lots of schools. @lb-southwark.bsky.social @jamesmcash.bsky.social

If only more school run journeys looked like this. A network of safe routes is needed to enable more people to choose sustainable travel.

The echelon parking in Dulwich Village was really dangerous.

Great to see it’s been replaced with standard parallel bays. Thank you Southwark Council @richardleeming.bsky.social @margynewens.bsky.social!

If a school street (& nearby Dulwich Square filter) can make this much difference, imagine what a network of safe cycling routes across the whole of Southwark could achieve!
