Amazon Big Deal days? No, thanks.

We'd rather see Amazon own up to its responsibilities across supply chains. Now that would be a big deal.

We are pleased to report that Lucky Brand has made a humanitarian contribution of $500,000 to assist garment workers at the Industrial Hana factory in Guatemala, which was, prior to its closure, a subcontractor for one of Lucky Brand’s direct apparel suppliers. www.workersrights.org/commentary/l...

We joined @cleanclothes.bsky.social, Katalyst Initiative & @solidaritycenter.bsky.social at #ClimateWeekNY for “Too Hot To Fashion”, a panel on what a #JustTransition means for garment workers.

Fair purchasing & living wages are key to tackling fashion’s climate impact.

Excellent news!! An important reminder that workers need the pay and severance they have built up after a factory closes and that brands are responsible for unpaid workers in their supply chain.

Good news! Lucky Brand to pay $500,000 to garment workers.
This case has immediate impact ($$$ in people's hands) & sets a precedent: No matter the layers of opaque ownership, brands are ultimately responsible for the consequences of their purchasing practices.

A former worker from the Industrial Hana factory holds a sign that reads "Thank you for the solidarity! We are proud to finally receive the pay we deserve" /"Gracias por su solidaridad! Estamos orgullosos que finalmentee recibimos el pago que merecemos!" The sign is in English and Spanish as the factory was in Guatemala selling to Lucky Brand among others

Obscene wealth at the top, a life of poverty for the rest.
We won't take it anymore!
For international Living Wage Day our call is simple:

📢 Tax the rich, not the poor.
💰 Living wage, that's the cure.

This Thursday at St Marks Church- what will a warming world mean for garment workers? This is an impressive panel that will have some real answers.

Union leader Anton Marcus says: "Next financial results are built off the back of our members, yet NEXT callously shut down their workplace & left them with no livelihoods. It's time for NEXT Board to decide: is profit at all cost worth the reputational damage of broken promises & destroyed lives?"

UK company NEXT announced yesterday that it will pay out 99 million pounds in dividends to shareholders. In the meantime it is closing its wholly owned and only organised factory in Sri Lanka because it is.. checks notes... too expensive!?! Take action: www.labourstartcampaigns.net/show_campaig...

ASICS has been standing by idly while one of its suppliers in Cambodia jailed a worker leader on fake charges & refused to compensate him or let him back to his original job.
The one promise they made, that he would get his old job back, was broken immediately.

And of course this is the tip of the iceberg when we look at heat risk across the world, especially in major production countries for the garment industry. We are in a crisis but we know the solutions. What's missing is the will from the top!

Heat deaths. Let that sink in. This should be a wake-up call.

It's the job of govts across the world to keep their citizens safe. Instead, from continuing oil and gas drilling to dragging their feet on making our homes and workplaces safe from extreme weather, they're failing.
Screenshot of headline reading: Human-made global warming 'caused two in three heat deaths in Europe this summer'

Subheading: Researchers from Imperial College London say 16,500 deaths caused by hot weather brought on by greenhouse gases

Long marches have a moral & political tradition.

This march pays honour to what is at stake due to the deregulation agenda:
✳️Weakened access to justice for victims of corporate abuse
✳️Weakened oversight of corporate negligence
✳️Increased vulnerability to climate & envi risks
cidse.bsky.social
📌 SAVE THE DATE
Let’s get together to demand:
📢 Accountability for human rights violation and pollution
🫴 Protection for communities from corporate harm.
✊ Rights for people, rules for business.
That’s why we’re joining the #March4Rights to push the EU #BackToTheFuture.

"What should human rights activists do when the nation state-led human rights order is eroding?" One tentative answer is that the human right community needs to rely on each other more.
Individual wellbeing matters, and we should level our game to collective resilience. #UNRBHR2025
