The point may hold in general, including in FR, whose poverty rate is 3% lower than UK or DE, both ca 11,7%. IN is above 20% and is as wealthy as UK. We don't have data about CN, but it should be in the same ballpark as IN or US.

One interesting statistic from the report is this convergence.

For good measure, here are the Gini coefficients, here lower is better. The range is from 0.82 to 0.38; DE had 0.68 in 2024, UK had 0.58.

Losing wealth while isolating from one's commercial partners, who gain wealth in the mean time, isn't great.

yet the report shows that UK's Gini coefficient is toward the more egalitarian countries, and it's decreasing

as for personal wealth, my eyeballs tell me: US, CN, JP, DE, FR (!), and UK, but the text says otherwise ("UK and Germany
with 3.8%") - again arguing against using pie charts

GDP per head may help answer your question about "millions struggling to eat"

now that i'm on the comp, the report clearly shows that Brexit has not been kind to Brits

Besides, one could easily argue that AlphaFold (Ben's example) indeed made a paradigm shift.

Benjamin Riley is selling Benjamin Riley

Don't be like Benjamin Riley.

And of course Ben is trying to sell something

Contrary to what he's trying to sell, Ben isn't a cognitive scientist, but a lawyer:

the denial "push the scientific frontier", whatever that means, has already been refuted

so time to backtrack to the wishy-washy concept of intelligence
