I could trust conservative magazine contributors, but not if they also lecture law at an Ivy League.

2025 was an exceptional year for the Earth's climate
⬆️ Warmest ocean heat content
⬆️ Tied as second warmest surface temps
⬆️ Second warmest troposphere
⬆️ Record high sea level and GHGs
⬇️ Record low winter Arctic ice

176 tiny maps (1850-2025)

Maps of temperature anomalies for each year. The progression to warmer, redder colours is evident over virtually the entire planet.

This 'small multiples' #dataviz approach is effective to show that nowhere is escaping from the warming due to us burning fossil fuels.

this is clearly driving Discourse on here

without getting too dug in on either side: I spend a lot of time in my community doing climate/decarb work without saying “climate”

and the reason is: there are lots of ways to do “decarb” that take aim at BOTH climate goals and community thriving
One answer that hit us in a big way: When we asked what jargon climate experts most want to ban, many said the word “climate” itself.

Here’s @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social on the verbiage insiders are veering away from:

Climate Insiders Want to Stop Talking About ‘Climate Change’
They still want to decarbonize, but they’re over the jargon.

Because the ocean absorbs >90% of the heat trapped in the climate system due to human enhancement of the greenhouse effect, the best and most steady measure of global warming is the change in ocean heat content.

It continues to break records every year:

Climate risk science's greatest project successes have come in part due to transparency and reusability. We show that at the paper-level, there is plenty of room for growth. We talk about why this matters, what researchers can do, and how the greatest progress requires institutional support
🚨 Publication alert! Very happy to see our paper "Unlocking the benefits of transparent and reusable science for climate risk management" out in PNAS today. With @crispapoll.bsky.social @jdossgollin.bsky.social @bobkopp.net and many others.

Despite its reputation as a lifesaver, for the elderly and medically frail, CPR may cause more harm than good. It's why many doctors opt not to receive it themselves.

A crow standing in a wide, cold landscape – alert, enduring, simply present. Sometimes a painting isn’t about story so much as posture. How it feels to stand, watch, and hold your ground.

[...] We consider it more likely that the recent rate of global warming has been larger than anticipated, exceeding both the previous trend and what would be expected when considering only the observed pattern of greenhouse gas emissions.
