2024 is almost history and the global temperature forecast for the remaining few days is rock solid now. Time to wrap up.

In most datasets, 2024 will be 0.1 degree C warmer than 2023. Also, 2024 will be the 1st individual year above the 1.5 degree Paris warming threshold in all datasets.

Has climate policy* worked?

There is an argument that CO2 per unit GDP has not accelerated in 50 years (top left).

This term is made of two componets:
* Energy per GDP (bottom left) which has not changed
* CO2 per Energy (top right), this is where the action is

Electrification + efficiency — not rolling back climate policy — is the real path to a competitive European industry.

High fossil fuel prices hit industry hardest, not the Green Deal. Undermining clean-energy commitments would only push investment elsewhere.

A huge 89% majority of global people [56% even in the United States] want stronger action to fight the #ClimateCrisis, but mistakenly believe they’re in a minority.

People want action. Smart cities are taking action. Nations should support city action.

November 2025 will end in Europe with temperatures again significantly above the 1981–2010 climatological reference period.
In the Alps, the marked anomalies of both very warm and very cold spells are expected to balance out, particularly when compared to the more recent 1991–2020 reference period

Any political “leader” still selling the obviously false choice between #ClimateAction and “the economy” is just reminding us that they clearly don’t understand either the climate crisis OR the economy.

Or they’re cynically hope that WE don’t understand the difference.

Or both.

Another classic for pluralistic ignorance (fueled by awfully biased media reporting). Alas, we are far far away from a just and sustainable mobility transformation which would allow people to travel without a car. Instead we keep forcing many people to drive in most places #motonormativity #carbrain
Off to Leeds later, to speak at the @teammodeshift.bsky.social annual conference tomorrow. Amongst much else, I'll be sharing this graph, based on our 2025 paper.
