I still to this day favor Generation 2 as my favorite of the series as I loved the Johto region and its dex, as well as the wealth of content. When they remade it with some Gen 3 extras, of course it made me love the game all over again.

Roguelite action, town building and a pinch of Animal Crossing in a very adorable and macabre package, Cult of the Lamb is to date one of my favorite Devolver Digital titles and I'm SUPER excited to dive back in for the expansion!

While I'm not super big on the concept of the gacha game, this one in particular has such a great combat design and world navigation and story/soundtrack that you almost forget it's a gacha game. To me it stands tall above the rest and continues to grow.

This is one of those games that's easy to turn your mind off to and just relax. It fulfills that exploration itch while giving you all the bits and pieces you need to build and unlock and progress, all in a stress free package. It's pure space joy.

What can I say about this one that hasn't already been said by so many others? Yes, it hasn't really done a lot that hasn't been done before, but it's HOW it does it that truly makes it special. RPG's will have a lot to do to top this one.

This one was tough as I do love me some Igarashi-era Castlevania games, and Symphony of the Night was the next runner up. Order of Ecclesia felt so different in a good way with its faster combat flow, stage-like map system and challenge level. Also Shanoa is bae.

It's amazing how such a simple concept exploded into the gaming hit that this game is today. It does such an amazing job of getting players in for that "one more run" with its numerous power-up combinations and unlocks and secrets, all with minimal input from players.

Survival games are my jam, I always loved the battle against nature itself and few games have really felt as well put together as Grounded, aka Honey I Shrunk the Kids: The Game. Amazingly addictive game mechanics and exploration combined with Obsidian's writing is a winning combo.

I've loved the Ys series since the first game on PC Engine and while I've become a bit disenchanted with it since Ys VIII due to its shift in style and gameplay, Ys Seven seemed to hold onto what I loved about the series while feeling just new enough to keep it fresh.

The Doom series needs no introduction to any fans of the FPS genre and I've devoted so many hours to the classics and the thousands of mods out there, yet Doom 64 always stood out to me for its focus on the horror aspect of the series and it melds so well with its frantic hellish action.
