anyway he wandered off, hands all clean, and the birds wanted to go back to bed so I turned their night lite on for them and they did so. all's well. I will say I'm really glad to not have chickens anymore

but like I think a solitary raccoon just tryna get slug slime or whatever off his hands is not a threat the way a drunk gang of raccoon teenagers is. those guys will fuck a bird up but one dude? apparently not

the ducks weren't horribly afraid, just kind of slightly alarmed, like they would be if a new cat came by who they'd never met. what they probably don't know is that raccoons can kill them, whereas a cat just would never try.

I of course went out to protect them? and maybe chase off the raccoon? but you know, dude was being totally chill and when I showed up he was like, hey I'm not fucking with you, can I just wash my hands in this dish of water here? (there are two dishes of very clean water right there)

I took that photo, it’s Hood River county, west of Parkdale somewhere and you’re looking at Arctostaphylos columbiana with Acer circinatum, and Garrya fremontii and some doug firs. There’s also a ton of Chrysolepis chrysophylla up there
