"The Halo" from a really bizarre story in Blue Beetle #24 (Holyoke, 1943), complete with Eisner Spirit swipe and a radio style host.

HELL, YEAH! Her AND Fred Williamson are going to be at Nightmare Weekend in Richmond Oct. 17-19. I'm even gonna have to get a couple autographs between moderating.

Hopefully it's because neither of them have much time left. And I think the picture you're looking for is:

My kid's COVID Halloween (he was three) looked like it was directed by Taika Waititi: We had a candy hunt and he wore a hastily made robot costume. But there was a Skeletor figure to be had.

Fox was "financially embarassed", per the WPA documents. This opening salvo in the case against Holyoke wasn't in the MD NARA files, and this is the missing piece.

Just got this court document from when the Comics Production Board took Holyoke Publishing to court. It has a fantastic summary of H's arrangement with Fox and Temerson.

Joe Kubert's Spark Stevens from Blue Beetle #19, Mar. 1943, Holyoke. Joe's growth as an artist from his first work (drawn when he was around 17) is not only leaps and bounds, but the influence his early stuff had on Ditko is obvious.

Even by politician standards, Rob Wittman is full of shit. Our Rep voted to eliminate healthcare from constituents, with several poor areas in his district. He brings up that he was adopted in several statements as proof that he "understands" the need for care. His actions don't reflect that.

I was a troubled kid going through a ton when Mike's The Flash came out. Learning this bad-ass artist went to VCU as an art school not only gave me hope to make comics myself, but also cemented my decision to apply early. His run on Robin is up there, as well, but my favorite work of Mike?

I could us some help: I’m really close to covering the final credits needed to defend my PhD dissertation in July. I’m also still between jobs. Please share, even if pitching in isn’t feasible. Thanks so much! I only have about $800 left to go.

This is in an email reply from our Representative, Rob Wittman. He does not give town halls in person, but instead heavily curated "virtual" town halls with pre-approved questions. #irony

After letting Graphic NYC rest for about 10 years, I'm finally bringing personal closure to all the great essays I wrote by bringing them to print life in one big, beautiful 800+ page edition! This is still early days, but here's a sneak peek:

From Blue Beetle #15 (Holyoke): EARLY Joe Kubert art, and Blue Beetle gets extorted into taking on a partner.
April 25, 2025 at 11:30 PM
Back to digging in on The Blue Beetle, this time, it's the Holyoke run! They were one of the creditors who forced Fox publishing into bankruptcy and arranged to publish BB to recoup lost funds (as Fox's printer). Little did they know how creative Fox would get about his bookkeeping!

And don't forget the XAM! Captain Marvel!!!!
