when you rely on elite advocacy to make change, you tend to end up with reforms that are acceptable to elites. here, in cleveland, that means neoliberal reforms. when you rely on elite advocacy you tend to reproduce neoliberalism

every time you fancy a new policy, doesn't mean you need to advocate for it. you might be the best person for that job, but it doesn't make it a worthwhile job. maybe spend your time trying to change minds about what exists instead of selling new, innovative solutions

we can make REAL CHANGE by asking the powerful nicely if they please create this board or appoint that person. otoh, it's counterproductive (to one's own career and life ambitions) to challenge folks when they say stuff like this:

closing Burke Lakefront Airport is not necessarily good or bad. that real estate development billionaire haslams are in favor of it makes me think it will be a neoliberal capital project, which probably will do little to uplift poor Clevelanders but most assuredly will help enrich the rich
