It’s very important to grapple with this nuance. Because you have to connect it to this other hard truth. They have been doing this to Black people for decades. They told you it was “necessary”. And you believed them.

I know the idea of “better” policing is as old a demand as civil rights movements in this country, the impulse to call for it at this moment is so terribly cruel that it can only be understood as aligned with the terrorists.

“protesters” are not “clashing” with law enforcement. violent federal agents have waged war on minneapolis and regular people are telling them to get the fuck out. and last time i checked being in a group chat doesn’t mean you’re in a professional organization. it means you have friends.

That she didn’t even bother to give lip service to the rage being understandable under the circumstances is insulting and alienating—which I say as a lifelong Democrat.
