Long retired to a houseboat on the Loire river, now faced with a deeply unpleasant world where the worst is a direct result of our own failures. Oxford PPE graduate, passionate about politics and freedom everywhere.
Absolkutely not. Governments are worse still, and which government would that be btw????

I fear that may be a little over-optimistic even if Trump and Zelensky did sit down together for a few minutes. I'd hve liked to be a witness to what was said.

Disagree. Those are importantn indeed, but the key question is getting our relations with Europe, particuarly France, back to totally positive territory.

Disagree again.... firstly no European state or state organisation is equipped to handle such an enterprise; secondly, experience to date should allow us Europeans to devise private sector rules that allow for better damage limitation...

Disagree. The rules under which it would have to operate would most surely not be the same as the Americans listed. I am an instinctive anti-rules person, but the negative impact of social media has gone beyond what is OK with me. Cool also with Europe tightening control of existing giants.

We really need to find a way to cancel. Could the King not develop an extremly bed cold, or find that his cancer treatment is causing him serious discomfort.
Failing all else, demonstrations will have to do, but for sure no Trump visit please.

Good news yes, but the real need for Europe is to have its own social media giants. The ones listed are dngerous and possibly evIl. "Adolesence" should be a warning to all of us. I am fully aware of the complexities, bu "do nothing" is not an option.

Pete you've got your work cut out over there in the once great US of A. The political chasm is erally bad.

This is not 1945... and sadly I was trained how to count. It helps when knowing wht is possible.
April 17, 2025 at 4:59 PM
Your usual nonsense.... cap rents = less housing. There are not the resources to run things more efficiently because pêople like you cannot count and want things that the UK cannot afford. Left wingers that can count are a non-existent breed.
April 17, 2025 at 2:35 PM
That is exactly what should be happening. UK please take detailed note and call President Macron now.

Allowing them in on nuclear power stations always seemed middling crazy... post-Scunthorpe it is clearly suicidal.

Starmer and Reeves have both slowly learned that there is no magic money tree out there, and that both Social Security and the British government machine are out of control and we are spending money that the government simply does not have. The "ultra-rich" and their wealth go where it suits.
