A small group of very woolly teddy bear-like sheep in the corner of a field by a hedge. The grass has been well flattened and brown with dried mud. The sheep come in different colours - cream, grey and brown. Some are lying down, some standing. They are very close to each other. I found that little story quite moving 🥲 I keep a Christmas memento of my late mother’s, who also suffered mental decline. The family all call it Evil Santa and we laugh and cry about it at the same time.

Tonight’s long #sunset

Upper section of an old and very weathered gate. It is made from vertical wooden slats bolted onto horizontal slats. The vertical slats are positioned so that they make a pleasing curve at the top. There is a curved wooden sign attached part way down which says DA BRIGS. Beyond the gate is a narrow stony causeway over some water leading to a rough grassy area. A glimpse of grey sky beyond. The back of an old and very weathered gate, covered in lichen. It is made from vertical wooden slats bolted onto horizontal slats. The vertical slats are positioned so that they make a pleasing curve at the top. A horizontal piece of wood stretches across the gate and through a slot and lifts up to provide a latch. A small section of stone wall can be seen on the left and some water and grass beyond.

A large bracket fungus on an old, wide tree stump that has been cut close to the ground. Grass is growing on top of it and around it. The fungus is like a large pale brown wonky dinner plate decorated with darker rings of dots and dashes.

A rather dull damp day but the Knapweed is making it’s presence felt 🙂 This is the road verge beyond our hedge which I have, ahem, commandeered 👀 Or perhaps I can say, reclaimed for insects.

Another successful garden meadow year. Tip for anyone who hasn’t tried it yet - it’s not enough to just stop mowing! I seeded this with Yellow Rattle a few years ago. It weakens the coarse grasses and gives other plants a chance. Getting there 🙂 #wildflowers #garden

Buttercups! 💛

Mine was just lawn but after sowing Yellow Rattle and adopting an October to March (approximately) mowing schedule it is currently reaching peak meadow. I’m thrilled with it. I stlll mow some areas for access and where the grandkids play. Photo through window on a wet day.

Smitten with the hares that are still visiting regularly. We’re assuming there are at least two as yesterday’s seemed more leggy with longer ears, more like a teenager hare. This one looks younger and is enjoying the luxuriant growth of vegetation since the rain returned #hare
