That was policy (Viking, Voyager, Pioneer etc.) until the STS. With a manned spacecraft now carrying "everything", launcher reliability was now officially 100%, save money and only make one. By the time of the post-Challenger shakeout no will to go back to the old ways of more than a decade ago.

Furthermore, the very next day the people I'm supposed to trust decide to do a reputation laundering of Olivia Nuzzi? This is not how you act if you are trying to earn trust from your readers! We do not trust your choices! They are bad!

Are hacked materials useful to reporters, based on the demonstrated judgements of NYT editors? Yes if they hurt Dems (Hilary and Mamdani) no if they hurt Trump and Vance. This is why "just trust me" is a losing argument.

We should trust your colleagues to make good decisions about newsworthyness, when they published articles sourced to a white supremacist hacker about a college application that didn't get him in? Like, that was a few months ago, I'm sure some of them are still there. That's a big, very recent lapse!

Or to an application to a college someone didn't even get into?

And it is easy to get in the car, roads are easy, big free parking lots. NYC we walked/bus/MTA everywhere because driving and parking sucked.

Yes, for six months it's like the surface of the sun outside, but even when it's San Diego outside, it's just more convenient to drive. Like, in NYC we had to go to the grocery store multiple times a week because we didn't have room, now we go once every two weeks, which needs car.

Four years ago I moved to PHX from Manhattan. Within a half mile of my house I have a grocery store, a public library, a drug store, two different parks. We have wide sidewalks, good cross walks and walk signals, bike lanes everywhere, and everyone drives everywhere.

She was a bulk ore carrier, not a container ship! The very first real container ship ( Ideal X, a modified WW2 T2 tanker) had just made her first voyage when the Edmund was ordered.

That was what the US did before 9/11. But no company could bear the suits for their letting the terrorists on the planes. So the Feds stepped in and nationalized it when they covered the costs and kiboshed the possibility of suing.

And in the memoir she didn't seem angry with Lorne, but it definitely annoyed her that she had to lose 15 lbs but no one cared about Chris Farley!
November 9, 2025 at 2:01 AM
If you read her memoir, Bossypants, she talks about how when she was a writer at SNL, at the end of one year Lorne told her that if she lost 15 lbs over the summer she could start working in front of the camera. She never gets to do 30R or anything else if she didn't lose that weight.

Collins is by far the biggest outlier left in the Senate. By Cook PVI, she's in a D+4 state. No other GOP represents an even state or worse. D's control 6 of 8 R+1 seats, split the 4 R+2 states, no D is left in worse than that. Which is why I think she's an underdog next year.

Unfortunately no. VA,NJ gov goes to the party that just lost the White House almost every time (18-2 since 1988). The party that just lost is really pissed off, the party that just won is a bit complacent. Because of the election year the GOP will not end up as marginal as in CA.
November 5, 2025 at 7:27 AM
Murphy pulled off something much harder: since 1988 the party that lost the WH is 18-2 in VA,NJ elections. Murphy'21 and TMac 2013 are the only 2 who managed to win the Gov mansion with their own party in the WH since Ronald Reagan. Murphy in 2021 was running against the wind.
November 5, 2025 at 3:08 AM
Since George H.W. Bush won in 1988, the party that just lost the WH is 16-2 in VA,NJ Gov elections. Those year-after elections are almost entirely driven by the out party hatred of the President. It doesn't even tell you much about the midterms- 2013 did not predict 2014.

That bit was insane. This is the loudest non-nuclear explosion noise you will ever hear! Many people across the world, both professionals and hobbyists, track all of these objects! It is not possible to have a secret space shuttle! We know every launch and orbital change of the X-37!

Just stay away from the original insignia of the US 45th Infantry Division. (NG units from OK, CO, AZ, NM, hastily changed to a Thunderbird in 1939, after their insignia from formation in 1920 didn't look right any more.)

Mega Roosevelt Island.

Collins is the biggest outlier in the Senate by Cook PVI. Maine is D+4. No other R is in an EVEN or worse seat. R+1 seats are 6D/2R, R+2 seats are 2D/2R. So the closest R to her by PVI is 5 pts away, and no other senator is more than 2 pts to the other party. That says to me she's an underdog.

It was a direct snap to the RB for a run, while Manning was walking off the field with his helmet unsnapped, but was nullified for the same reason- he'd gone under center. Not sure which game.

The UN airframe that was shot-down the most in ODS was the A-10. The Iraqi IADS, such as it was, overmatched the A-10. Air defenses have gotten a lot better in the past 30 years than the A-10 has. And the F-111 recorded more tank kills, plinking with LGBs from medium altitude.
