Lonzo is going to have his option declined after the season and that will save them some amount of money, maybe getting them close to getting under the second apron. That's basically his value now.

But he's a Yankee prospect so I look forward to him being the proposed trade return for every superstar that is on the trade block for the next 2 years.

Agreed. And probably more relevant for them as they need wing production far more than they need a 3rd guard in the playoffs

It's part of the annual Mike Brown cup

Divvying up the $12.4b reported in 2024 by 60 you get $213m/team. Assuming you take $25m off for non-salary expenses, you get a cap of $188m with a floor of $169m. You tell me if MLB ever proposes anything close to that. I doubt it.

This suggests that non-salary expenses come out to about $20m/team. Now that *might* be higher in baseball due to the minors and pension fund and such. But I wouldn't guess by much. This allows us to ballpark what a 50% or so cap and floor system would look like in MLB

Granted MLB player pay isn't the only thing, but if we follow the NFL, you can calculate out how they set the cap. Take their $21b revenue in 2024, divide by 32, then multiply by .485 (the negotiated cut for players in CBA). You get $315m/team, the cap is actually $295m.

I had to Google what happened and I feel dirty for clicking on a Cleveland dot com story that apparently was partially AI generated. Also he comes off as such a loser
