Recent flurry of EOs and compliance chaos is akin to what abortion providers have been managing for years. Fight as you can, find ways to be flexible in your operations, center the needs of your staff, minimize effects on popl’n served, be creative, get good at conflict & comms - repeat.

Abortion access has never been smooth sailing, but we are truly in for a bumpy ride, folks.

we will keep track of all the changes, fight in every way we can, and deepen into our visions. but find your grief practice. so many people are going to suffer and die in so many unnecessary ways in the short term because of the decisions and moves being made. learn to feel your grief as we go.

My gf comes from a *very* large Irish family who all live in the same city. We’re moving out of state w/o a send off party. An unmatched Irish goodbye.

This is a very scary time for early career scientists like people looking for/who are postdocs and new faculty trying to get funding. Any words of encouragement to share for people in this category?

Second in #emergentstrategy reflections - Atoms Never Touch by @michacard.bsky.social .

This book 🥹. A beautiful story centering trans families and perfectly situated to give us guideposts on our current political contexts. Great text for interdisciplinary classrooms!

I would ask that you pour one out today for all the instructors whose course lesson planning and material is being rewritten on the fly by the government

I started my PhD in Sociology in Fall 2016 and was much more horrified, scared, and disappointed (and nearly a decade younger) at a Trump presidency than now. There is no place to be naive about what is in front of us. Connect to your soul-knowledge that knows this isn’t right. We deserve better.

Pharmacists are prescribing abortion pills in Washington, not simply dispensing the medication — a development intended to broaden abortion access by taking advantage of rules that give them prescribing ability in most states.
Abortion Pills Prescribed by Pharmacists Are Newest Effort in Abortion Fight
Washington State’s program is the first, but other states are expected to try allowing pharmacists to prescribe the pills to counter growing efforts to curtail abortion access.

U-haul is so odd like I never drive anything larger than a CRV but sure, I can drive a 15’ truck across the state.

I think everyone should get to know the west African term “wahala”.

It generally means “chaos”, “confusion”, or “drama”. A clusterfuck.

I’ve been on a mission for years to use it more regularly in my work.

Because—- *gestures at everything*

See wahala?!???

First in my #emergentstrategy series reflections is ‘Begin the World Over’ by Kung Li Sun. I picked this book up over the Thanksgiving break and it felt very much in alignment with pop-culture and other news (1/7)

I finished my doctorate in May 2024 and have been feeling *stuck* - burn out, lack of creativity, exhaustion, etc. I’ve decided to read the #emergentstrategy series to get my brain going again. Reading them in no particular order. Posting my thoughts here.

Community care and mutual aid are ALWAYS important. For those of us in exceptionally cold cities, helping folks pay their gas & electric bills seems like a given, but it could prevent serious injury like frostbite (yes people can and do get frostbite in their homes) or burn injuries…(1/6)
