Yesterday I wrote a programme note which included the phrase 'the chiaroscuro of Advent'. And now it doesn't even bother getting light today. My fault, people.

Stop press: Corbyn's party has actually achieved something. It has a (non-)name. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
New party founded by Corbyn adopts Your Party as name
Your Party delegates also vote to be led by a panel of members - avoiding a potentially explosive leadership race.

"I never directly racially abused anyone" is quite the non-defence, when you think about what it does not preclude.

Mega-niche programming shout-out: early Baroque-ish Christmassy things for not more than SSATB (or SSATTB at a pinch) plus instruments (quartet) which involve, or /could/ involve recorders? I have the Messe de Minuit, obviously...

British Airways and Heathrow. The usual toxic combination. Pointless and irritating delays for no good reason beyond general sloppiness in every direction.

Lovely to be back in Galway today for the first time since 2013, when I conducted a glorious little production of Così for OTC. Today has started with a run, a swim, and excellent coffee. Now looking forward to sightseeing and a concert tonight at St Nicholas' Church! stnicholas.ie/event/music-...

So apparently the orange horror is about to announce a 'cure' for autism.

I cannot adequately articulate how offensive this is to anyone with first-hand experience of ASD.

Hasn't aged me a day...
We’ve enjoyed a suitably bonkers weekend at Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht so far, singing five concerts between 7am and 9pm on Saturday, and an afternoon performance yesterday - which marked @colla-voce.bsky.social’s 500th concert with the group! 🎉

Rather wonderful to be preparing some music by Britten (getting ahead for Autumn concerts) while staying in Britten's old boarding house at Gresham's School. I wonder which room was his?
