The Collective Voice Women's Treatment Working Group has today launched its Womanifesto.

This sets out three sets of recommendations, each with clearly stated next steps:
1. Women-only spaces & services
2. Motherhood & maternity
3. Co-designed women's pathway & partnerships
An image showing the Collective Voice logo and branding in green, with a quote reading "Through dedicated spaces, support for mothers, and co-designed pathways, we can build a system that is safe, inclusive, and effective for all women." Further text states 'Read the full Womanifesto on our website', and there is a circular diagram showing three statements: Women-only spaces and services; Motherhood and maternity; Co-designed women's pathway and partnerships.

Today saw the publication of the Independent Sentencing Review, as well as the Government's response.

Our Director, Will Haydock, sees lots to welcome, but notes that while the review calls for additional investment to deliver on its ambitions, the Government hasn't yet committed to this. 1/2

...to make sure the Government continues to prioritise evidence-based action on these issues. If we get the advice and decisions right, this can be life-changing for individuals, families and communities. 3/3

That the role is continuing is an encouraging sign that this Government takes issues around #drugs & #addiction seriously. Dame Carol's work has been transformative for our field, so whether she continues or it's someone new, we look forward to working together... 2/3

The Government is currently advertising the role of Independent Advisor to the UK Government on drugs. This is the role that Dame Carol Black has held for several years, originally appointed under the Conservative Government. 1/3

... and so stigmatising media coverage of the report actually makes it harder for local services to do what the report is telling them to, and less likely the Government will achieve its aims. It might look tough on drugs but it could make it harder to reduce drug-related harm. 3/4

We also had some serious concerns about the media coverage of the report. It's important to challenge the stigmatising images and language used by one outlet in particular - not just out of compassion, but pragmatism: we know stigma means people are less likely to access support... 2/4

Last week the Government published a report outlining evidence and insights for local areas designed to help strengthen their preparedness for the synthetic opioid threat. We welcome the report, but think the Government also needs to provide national leadership on a couple of key issues. 1/4

It's good to see this work on future #research on #addiction, #alcohol & other #drugs progress to the next stage. After extensive engagement across the field & the wider public, key priorities for future research have been identified. Collective Voice is proud to have been a partner in this work.

NHS primary care services have been able to prescribe in this way since 2019 & in 2023 the ACMD recommended that this approach be expanded.

We could address this with simple, affordable support from NHSE/DHSC, and it would save huge amounts of staff time, enabling us to focus much-needed time and resource on the people who use our services.

Yesterday the Department of Health & Social Care trumpeted "Cutting edge tech introduced in social care". It's good to see genuine work continuing the 'shift from analogue to digital' but it's also a reminder that specialist substance use treatment services still have to write prescriptions on paper
