Native Black Poplars, are majestic landscape trees but sadly one of Britain's rarest trees. They are native to Hertfordshire, but are rare here too, and found in the wetlands and along the chalk streams and rivers.

River Ver, St Albans, images taken within 100m of each other. Different ways chalk streams support their local mammalian populations: both important symbols of the role these streams play in our modern society, and should be cherished and celebrated!

Autumn is here!

Today the sun is perpendicular to the equator, and daytime and night time are of approximately equal duration.

Autumn is often celebrated with festivals, music, dancing, and communal gatherings.

Look around you, do you see nature changing colours already...?

Invasive Non-Native Species can look innocuous, even pretty, but they cost the UK over £4 Billion every year though direct damage and loss of habitat for native species. This latest threat to our local rivers is American Skunk Cabbage @invasiveSP

This Non Native Invasive Species has an appalling effect on the aquatic environment. The delicate pink flowers of Himalayan Balsam are deceptive, it barricades riverbanks hiding the destruction it causes until Winter. Read more here
