On continue with the turbot for two (which is of course an easy 15/10) with pomme purée and a green salad.

There is more wine.

On commence (swallowing back the tears) with a dozen oysters (11/10), two ginormous oursins (either 12/10 or 1/10 depending on your oursin tolerance) and a brace of Chabliss.

“in the depths of his chest the hound was preparing to upraise a song.
You're going to sing," I said.
Yes," he replied gravely, "I'm going to sing, soon, but not yet."
"You're beginning already," I said.
No," he said, "not yet. But be prepared."

He was a character — very clever, handsome, incredibly athletic, really quite funny, and sometimes a rather large handful.

He was always the very best of dogs.

We will miss him terribly but our loss at his parting is small compared to the joy of his life.

Some very sad news from @donnad.bsky.social and I.

Our beloved dog Felix has passed away after a very short illness.

Some of you had met him in person and many knew him from here or the other place.

He was very loved.

We are devastated but we also celebrate his life.

Europe doesn’t need to be great — and certainly not someone else’s idea of great — Europe is great and in all the finest senses of the word.

The fête de st Vincent did not disappoint — in all of the current unpleasantness a joyous occasion where everyone just had a really great time.

The Road to St Vincent cont.

I am pretty sure that taking the advice of @sirjjkc.bsky.social is very highly recommended in many respects but not least with respect to cocktails. Accordingly, I am sitting in a rather chic hotel in Puligny Montrachet about to drink this here Boulevardier.

For some reason, it feels like a good time to remind everyone of the fable of The Wolf and the Lamb and what it might tell us about the relationship between power / might and law / rationality.

The screenshots below are from the original Jean de La Fontaine* edition via Gallica.
