Today, August 9th is Mary Sumner Day. We remember her remarkable vision for supporting women and families, started in Hampshire in 1876, that today is a worldwide movement with over 4 million members that still seeks to transform the lives of people and their communities.

#OTD in 1848 Mary Heywood married George Sumner at St James the Great in Colwall. Mary would go on to found the #MothersUnion in 1876.

St James was beautifully decorated and local children lined the path into church, and threw flowers into the path of the bride.
