This is remarkable. The world added more solar and wind capacity in 2024 than we added demand. 100% of demand growth PLUS 9% to retire dirtier sources. Cheap energy keeps winning. ember-energy.org/latest-insig...

Last night, NASA's Perseverance rover looked up at the night sky once more, to capture interstellar #comet 3I/Atlas flying by the red planet.

The distance was "only" 0.2 AU or 30 Mio km, far closer than the comet ever got to Earth. 🔭 #3IAtlas

Honestly, the most horrifying things in my timeline are videos of ICE mobsters violently attacking weak and vulnerable people, including babies. I can't stand to watch it, it makes me sick.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves
Followed by fault lines that cannot sit still
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits
And some say the end is near
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon
I certainly hope we will
I sure could use a vacation from this
Stupid shit, silly shit, stupid shit

I know, I know. 😉 Yes, it helps that it is quite condensed.

With currently 6.5 mag it is hardly a naked eye object - or you have desert skies and very good eyesight. It should be about 2 weeks until it's brighter than 5 mag and may be visible as a fuzzy star to the unaided eye. Also, elongation is beginning to decrease, too, so extinction becomes a factor.

I have no more details except that it was shot with a 135-mm Tele lens at f/2.8 and an ASI 294m. So, the optics is quite fast.

Mosaic image by Michael Jäger and Gerald Ehemann, showing more than 12° tail for comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon).
Visually the comet is around 6.5 mag, and for me the visual tail length is still below 1°.
Max magnitude most likely around 3 mag towards Oct/Nov .

I went mushroom picking for a bit this morning. The cool and damp weather of the last few days wasn't helpful. Lots of mushrooms, but most were already old and moldy. My haul of boletes will only be enough for me for dinner.

We laugh at this shit -- I mean, how can you not? -- but it's serious: these guys want to infuse reactionary thinking into AI and then infuse AI into every nook & cranny of American life. They can't win the argument so they are trying to blunt-force their views onto us with money & power.
