I wish Emily Cochrane would explain what she means by “mythology”. The piece is about the very real history of Carter’s affect on Atlanta and there’s nothing mythical at all. It’s an insightful piece and a fine chronicle but for that curious word choice in the first sentence.

This dynamic can apply both to criminal figures in folklore and to populist leaders in politics. Boris, Bolsonaro, Milei all dance or danced to this tune.

Meanwhile, the hardships, frustrations, distrust, and divisivness only grow under the narcissists. Relief never comes.
