Oh dear, looks like more de-prioritisation of speech and language deveopment

Today is a terrible and very confusing day. A Government that supposedly prioritises young children's development has let the Early Years Professional Development Programme close - without any explanation to children, families or early years staff.
🤞🤞🤞 this can be reversed at the #SpendingReview.

Communication Supporting Environments benefit ALL pupils!

Language Learning Opportunities

Plan daily activities across the curriculum that support the development of language and communication.

Language Learning Environments

The way the physical environment is set up and managed can help or hinder language and communication.

Language Learning Interactions

The way that adults in your setting communicate with pupils makes a huge difference. With effective strategies consistently in place, pupils will understand more, follow instructions better and answer questions more successfully.

Unless their ability to develop speech, language and communication skills is prioritised, children from areas of disadvantage or with special needs are being set up to fail - our letter in today's Daily Mail:
Image of printed clipping from the Daily Mail, showing a letter to editor from Jane Harris, CEO of Speech and Language UK, about the absence of speech and language skills in the interim curriculum review.

It looks like the pages about speech, language and communication have gone missing from the Department for Education's interim curriculum review. Parents, and surely also the prime minister, will be disappointed. www.linkedin.com/posts/speech...
