My point is simply that meaningfulness isn't a uniquely precious state-provisioned good. Neither is equality for that matter. Insofar as policy levers allow, these can be traded off another without any loss in justice.

The phrase "intrinsic value" does not apply to ecological services. Insect control is great perhaps, but that's an instrumental anthropocentric good. Similar to preserving fish species for the sake of fishing stock.
