Just another conspecific.
Oh christ, giving genetic testing results is one of the worst applications I can think of for a chatbot, too. "This result isn't just devastating for your own future health—it also may make you reconsider having children!"

Considering how many Amazon reviews are just AI garbage at this point, I guess I'm really just trying to see if anyone was pissed enough to come back and write "this thing can't even suck up cat litter." Online shopping 👍

I think Rufus noticed my "systematic approach" to using the same search query over and over so I can be mad at it, and now it no longer tries to get the vacuum involved at all. "Perfect! Go look at cat litter, since you seem to be obsessed."

Another attempt from my phone finally yielded a response about the vacuum AND cat litter, but it's just regurgitated from the product info. The one reference to the customer reviews that I wanted to search didn't relate to cat litter

I tried to search the reviews again from my laptop, and the AI response briefly acknowledged my question (with another "actually" thrown in) before trying to direct me to cat litter boxes

It was clearly just trying to save me from the irritation of sitting on hold forever. Our computer overlords are always looking out for us 🤗

One time I got so completely trapped in a loop of "no, I can definitely help you with that!" that I had to hang up and call back to start over. Usually it eventually recognizes my request as something it needs to transfer to a person, but I guess I said the wrong thing, and it really doubled down

Spending five minutes arguing with the pharmacy's automated voice menu that keeps insisting "okay, but I can probably help you with that!" instead of letting me talk to a real person

I remember marking that I was "neither satisfied nor dissatisfied" on Taco Bell surveys, because come on, it's fucking Taco Bell. Then I worked retail w/bullshit surveys, and I realized that the underpaid employees who gave me perfectly adequate service probably got hassled for a "bad" review :(
December 16, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Sometimes they're secretly pass/fail, too, so on a scale from 1-5, anything below 5 is a zero. All the surveys really do is annoy the customer into giving management a reason to punish the employees

And then every site's like "we noticed that you're blocking our ads 🥺 we're just a little guy, it hurts us so much 🥺 won't you let us make our site unusable? pretty please 🥺"

That was with a q-tip?? Good god, what do they make them out of these days. My late 2013 model macbook pro is just barely still chugging along, but when Bean knocked it off a dresser, it suffered no damage and dented the fucking floor instead

Is this the one where you were excited to find a green rock, and everyone yelled at you and told you it wasn't green

Also, the pre-anesthesia bloodwork found that his creatinine was high enough to be stage 2 kidney disease... switched to a special food, and it's back to normal now, thank god. He wasn't having symptoms yet, so I had no idea. Hopefully this will keep him healthy for a good long while

Bean had his teeth cleaned in June, and it turned out he had two back teeth that needed pulled due to resorption, which they could only tell once he was knocked out. So I'm glad I had it done for his sake. Plus, when he meows directly in my face, it no longer launches a little stench projectile

If you can swing it, I highly recommend it! Tooth resorption is surprisingly common, and painful, and just gets more painful over time. Muffy had several teeth that they could see needed to be pulled, and I really wish I'd prioritized that, since she was probably in pain all the time
