I'll see references online to the table's note taker & it makes me think. My experience has seen very few note takers but I wonder if this is an outlier situation. Do most other tables have someone serving this function?

I'm not talking about bad rolls. That happens all the time. I'm talking actual failure. The party has to run away from a fight (or even a TPK). Their political ambitions are thwarted. The theft doesn't succeed. Did the loss make the story better?

There are a lot of interesting settings out there with some truly bizarre places for the PCs to visit. Maybe a tavern in the skeleton of a giant fish or a night club in an old subway car.
