The Pod Johns basically advised Obama to approach politics like Jed Bartlett. In other words, never to seek actual political advantage. Never to wield power to accomplish the aims of the people who elected you. But to seek an imagined ideal of enlightened centrism that brings balance.

Yet all the policy ideas of the Bartlet admin are centrist 3rd way bs for its own sake. The common thread: the left are children and the right are to be courted. From the so-called most Liberal president of a lifetime.

I know it *won’t* happen. But I think it *should* and I think it would help, and the good would outweigh the bad. When the team has to warn its players to stay in their hotel and travel to the rink with their passports, it’s naive to think things will just get better by themselves.
