These are the last of the screenshots I prepared for this. You should go listen to the Kenshi main theme. It's incorrectly called Scorching Wind on YouTube a lot, so you can probably find it under that. It's an absolutely incredible theme that fits Kenshi's haunting, hopeless vibe perfectly.

But you can shape the world, give it a glimmer of hope. Or crush it beneath you. Or, more likely, become one of the countless, nameless fallen victims to the twice-doomed moon. I love it, and if you like its sort of thing, you should check it out. It goes on sale often, once a month or so.

It has a sense of humor in the right places, like interactions with NPCs and this loot I got from a boss fight. But sometimes the music hits at just the right time as the sun sets, and the heart you've hardened against the desert's trials is struck by the hopelessness of the world around you.

Walking into Obedience and finding the rusted corpses stretched high into the sky, their very deed having created the monument to their sin that would haunt the First Empire until its fall, and hearing only soft violin and the gentle wind across the metal plains was haunting the first time.

The lore is difficult to find and can be interpreted in different ways with how vague it can be, but what I've been able to decipher and find tells an extremely unique story of a world that's ended twice, fallen from a gilded space age to a rusted iron age due to repeating history.

It's very hard to get into and I only recommend it to sickos of a similar variety to myself, but if you can find the patience for it, you'll find an incredibly atmospheric experience with emotional moments and incredible stories that come naturally as a result of game design and your own choices.

Regardless of choice, though, you're just one of two idiots at the bottom of the food chain with very little to your name. Kenshi is all about desperation, both in gameplay and story. It's the driving force for both events in the lore and your own actions. Everyone needs to eat and stay alive.

Kenshi's a true sandbox game, no main quest, no questlog, no tutorials or other guidance. Your goals and obstacles are entirely of your own making. The game starts vary, ranging from being starving, naked, broke, and down an arm in the middle of the desert, to a freshly-exiled ronin.
