I think this is still the 2023 AFDC data and it's normalized to total population rather than total registered cars, but, neat:
www.self.inc/info/electri...

not super surprising but neat to see it this way and this is closer to what I thought I was seeing up top

If Pokémon was real and you were just an average trainer, what would your team be?

(Be as realistic as possible. No Mythics or Legends.)

I love how so many people are just like "puppies and cats :)"

and so, optimizing in part for pets and in part for pokemon & also okay at battle!

it is funny to imagine that the intensity and size of these blocks means that there's just like tens-dozens of thousands of queers in the Palm Springs area even though it's entirely reasonable the LA/SD areas have higher absolute numbers, just concentrated into, again, smaller tracts
November 29, 2025 at 2:18 AM
I did read the about page and the limitations of using census tracts causing some hilarious shapes but I love the mental image of a whole bunch of people going "you know what, I fucking AM gonna open up a restaurant in Santa Fe, sunny santa fe WOULD be nice!"

I can't believe this didn't occur to me before but I wonder if this is what Tesla's maybe aiming for w/ the four models.

Feels tough in a market that wants a few different form factors for different use cases.

Rivian's just-a-few models are at least somewhat different but also not yet shipping

Looks like a truck stop between Kingman and Needles has come online and a second one at the junction with AZ95 is on the docket
November 25, 2025 at 3:05 AM
Okay so there's definitely some more interest today and that's good to see.

I am still gonna complain about 40/15 but a lot of these jumps are "doable in most 150+ mile EVs"

can you imagine being the guy charging to 100% in an oldbolt at Goffs. Great way to meet a bunch of new people.

f.ex Loves's Speedco in Kingman AZ ($800k awarded for 4 ports) is at least ten miles outside of the core of Kingman so it wouldn't super surprise me if APS needs to do a bunch of work a/or there's other site prep (building a pad or whatever)

(disclaimer again etc etc)

on the most extreme of tangents... fooling around with ABRP, apparently my place to Portland is theoretically possible in a Mazda MX-30
November 24, 2025 at 2:50 AM
normal good ideas (that the second one is possible at all is insanely impressive to me, even if you have to cross into Canada to do it)

Frye makes boots!

They're best known for engineer/campus boot styles

was not aware they made literally anything else lolol

alternately just do it the Phoenix way and make it three separate incomplete overlapping circles and give each junciton a cute name like The Stack or SuperRedTan
November 18, 2025 at 5:54 PM
You know what, I'm going to count this as a win.

anyway this is a tiny bit of a mess but basically hydrogen is the most expensive type of car to fuel and it's not even close.

Hydrogen price is "national" (CA) average across all stations
The gas price I picked was some of the most expensive gas on US395
the electricity is same @ both
November 17, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Made a joke last week about how much more it would cost to drive a Mirai than a 25-year-old pickup truck (or a brand new unreasoanble one) and it's *wild*. $53/100mi for a 12mpg gasser in the most expensive part of california (no H2 available on US395 alas

the Mirai is still worse than gas on i5

Sorry I haven’t been super active, I’ve been sleeping inside but the mattress upstairs now is meaningfully worse than the one in the van so I’m still not sleeping amazingly

Total sidenote but this whole thing is actually a personal favorite aesthetic of mine. Hyundai went insane for their V2L pictures and like the Honda Japan pictures for the N-Van:E and N-One:E are similarly Really Hilarious
