Auto alt-text for just screenshots of tweets or other text-only images are usually 100 percent accurate. If there's an image attached to, say, a headline it prints a bunch of random characters but you can simply erase those and type "Trump falling asleep on the toilet like Elvis" or whatever

Alternatively, the alttext4you bot is just a bot that scans an image and describes it. And yeah, sometimes the description sucks, and you have to edit it a little in the alt-text box. But usually my edits ADD descriptions the bot doesn't.

I'm not sure if it is an actual AI that finds the words in an image and puts them in the alt-text box on Mastodon. Mastodon is a decentralized non-profit social media platform. Yet pretty much every server has the "detect text from image" function. I don't think it's from a data center

Bluesky seriously needs an edit button. It also needs an AI that scans images for text and adds them automatically to the alt-text box. (One of the few uses for AI I approve of) Mastodon has both.
