In regard to the loudly repeated accusations that academia has a left/liberal bias, my own thought is: if people who work with hard evidence & analyse vast amounts of data & statistics, are predominantly "progressive," that surely implies progressivism is a rational choice.

What strikes me is that Trump began confidently blaming the left before conclusive proof about who the killer is and what their motivations were can be established. Says everything.

It's also profoundly inhumane and a machiavellian calculation of huge proportion that such adjustments are only made in order to adapt to a political weather countervailing to their own, and thus shore up legitimacy. I swear these people have hearts of stone, and a devil in their brain.

Anybody who wants to genuinely & authentically repent for past endorsement of such a flagrantly genocidal regime needs to leave westminster & devote the rest of their life & career to materially helping Palestinians. But they just want the halo, without the grace.
Sounds cynical, but it's true.

Albert Einstein made the observation that modern economic planning is more akin to astrology, based on superstition, than scientific, rational planning. Economic administration would be best planned according to socialism, which banishes capitalist dogma in favor of logically justifiable policy.

In the spirit of freely exchanging art, particularly political art... some years ago I tried to emulate the atmosphere of Imagine by John Lennon in a song dedicated to Assange, Manning & all political prisoners:

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't access to clean sanitation supposedly what distinguishes "first world countries" from the rest? Where does that leave us?

Personal data trade is the new oil trade, with equally as deleterious consequences

I'm delighted to see that there are people/organizations actively adjusting their operations in a more ethical direction in response to humanitarian concerns bought to light by the likes of the UN. It's a powerful reminder that positive choices remain on the table, that all is not lost.

Lib interventionism is a reiteration of racial supremacist "Civilizing Mission" tropes confected to justify brutal occupations. It's a lie. If the motive was to enshrine liberal norms, Saddam would have faced international courts, not hung on TV. Pretence of due process is how US masks its cruelty.

I fear contemporary surveillance systems and technologies are sophisticated beyond anything Orwell could ever have imagined...

@drjennings.bsky.social the fact that this happened just up the road from Grenfell, using millions of pounds of resources better spent on proper cladding, is just awful

I decided to campaign outside the embassy of Ecuador when it was a focus for police/intelligence. They mounted a (very successful) effort to intimidate me on the way. Obvs this was an isolated incident & political repression in the US is far more entrenched, but we are closer to it than we think.

Growth/GDP is an absurd metric. Aiming for unlimited growth in a world of finite resources, a world on the path to being doomed by consumerism, is fundamentally flawed... carbon neutrality/carbon zero/decarbonised infrastructure should be the measure of success...
