actually if we're talking making changes that actually help, they wouldn't be cops, they'd be strictly traffic enforcement with no broad police powers. unless you'd argue that we shouldn't have traffic enforcement at all, I see no reason not to employ more people to do the necessary parts of the job

I can think of reasons why they're useful to have around, the unfortunate part is I can also think of very real situations where they would be abused, given real life incidents.
