Mom of 2, unapologetically talking about being a #womeninSTEM and #mominscience
My morning has started with a student presenting an analysis entirely (and transparently) done by chat GPT… I have not had enough coffee to be trying to explain why writing a prompt into AI can’t be called ‘analysis’

As scientists we aim to solve the biggest, most complex challenges collaboratively… but at this point we can’t even figure out how to share documents without counteracting one of our organizations access policies 😵‍💫 #frustration #collaboration #commonsenseplease

Sometimes I feel like I’m rocking the working mom thing, other times I’m answering a LinkedIn message and turn around to realize my kid is buck ass naked on the swing 😂

9pm the night before a paper deadline and the toddler decides she doesn’t want to go to sleep…so I’m formatting and editing while she dances. #momsinacademia #workingmoms #jugglingact

What is the conservative platform now? Repeal the carbon tax? Ok, Carney has committed to that. F*ck Trudeau? Ok, he's gone. Unify Canada? The current government is doing that, and very well I might add.
If he has an actionable platform I'll listen. Until then, stop bashing my country.

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Anyone else finding it a bit hard to concentrate on their day to day work of doing good science when it feels like the world might just be teetering on the brink of all out warfare and total economic collapse? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Parents in #ontario if you haven’t had your children vaccinated, now would be a great time to do it! I promise the public health nurses will be thrilled to help you out!

I still think not enough Canadians realize that Ukraine is also fighting a war that may very well end up on Canadian land. The bad actors want the same thing from Canada as Russia wants from Ukraine.
I see troubling times ahead for us in Canada.

Can’t help but wonder if folks in the US are aware of how upset Canadians are about the increasingly aggressive rhetoric from their leader…and how much emphasis is being placed on the hockey game being played tonight

In case anyone is unclear, this is the prevailing sentiment here. In fact, almost unanimous. We will be flying the maple leaf high and proud. Canada is sovereign and independent.

Science is a noble but fragile endeavour that must be protected from political control and censorship.

Scientific communities, around the world, should show solidarity with our colleagues in the US and denounce this chilling attack on science and scientists.

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

every single grant and paper I have ever written would be at risk if I was in the US 😵‍💫

What can we as an international scientific community do to best support our US based colleagues right now?

Have been working on a paper titled ‘ AI enhanced wound care as a tool for enhancing equity and access’ for a while now. It was targeted for a US journal. Today my boss informed me we would need to find a new target journal because of the equity lens.

Equity shouldn’t be controversial 😑

For the second time in two weeks my paid labour is being made possible by my mothers unpaid care work when my daughters preschool closed on short notice due to a bomb threat. Participation in the labour force is predicated on available care, including emergency care!

Hey all, I’m looking for a community of scientists to follow! Gerontology, dementia, health system and policy research, ageing, implementation science, community based research. I want to hear what you are up to and share what I’m up to! Hoping I might find that community that I lost when Twitter 💀
