Glad to hear that. Watching that video made me wish we were doing it here. Good to know we are.

I may not have explained myself well: I'm saying that they build infrastructure with enough capacity for future expansion, so increasing density in existing housing does not necessarily mean the infrastructure must be immediately upgraded.
But I could be misremembering.

Correct me if I'm wrong: They overbuiid sewers and other infrastructure so they don't need to replace it due to population growth. right? So when people claim that densification is also expensive due to requiring infrastructure upgrades are misinformed?

I don't mind taxpayer money going to traffic calming. I'd rather the money from speed cameras doing it.

Wait, the main point was we should all just drive motorcycles alongside the cars, a type of vehicle that is the most dangerous in traffic because car drivers often don't see them and take them out, as well as the risk of hitting a small stone and crashing?

As a single-child household a back yard can be a lonely place. Better to go explore the neighbourhood and meet new friends.

This is not "as good as a back yard" it is better than.

The Canadian Broadcasting Company has the chance to do the funniest thing right now.

National Research Council - scoop up the academics.

CBC - scoop up the comedians!

I didn't know that. In Ottawa we have sidewalk plows

This reminds me of how, in Ontario at least, neighbourhoods are expected to dig out their fire hydrants after snow falls

City of Ottawa: Build safe streets for pedestrians and cyclists instead of prioritizing cars heavily. Stop thinking a bsky post is going to change driver behaviour and look at what actually changes driver behaviour.

New York City has entered the chat.

It starts with how our streets are designed and who is prioritized. Regions which have achieved Vision Zero did so by changing their streets and priorities.

Cajoling drivers and parents walking kids to be "extra vigilant" is not good enough.

My wife doesn't understand the anticipation I feel that she may need me to make a mid-week grocery errand.

I get to feel like a supper hero and ride my bike?

Heck yeah!

I am so mad we do them in Canada and infect our children with that fear.
August 28, 2025 at 5:55 PM
Exactly. These are better than an actual truck (which also sometimes inhabits the bike lane) and the solution is wider bike lanes.
August 27, 2025 at 9:22 PM
I wish we could do more than just ask drivers nicely to not kill our kids. Surely someone in the world has found solutions to make roads actually safer. We should institute them here.

Imagine doing an enforcement campaign that isn't focused on the thing that killed 30 people last year.
