CPRE, the countryside charity, in Lancashire, Liverpool City Region and Greater Manchester wants a thriving, beautiful countryside for everyone. Green spaces should be accessible to all, rich in nature and playing a crucial role in net zero. Join us.
We love this report. It is indicative that housing lobbyists are being super defensive when the data speaks for itself. All we seek are better outcomes for people, places and nature and it is about time developers were performance checked and that people were better represented in the process.
Yet again CPRE are claiming there's sufficient brownfield land and we don't need to build on any countryside. There are many reasons why this isn't correct 🧵
Almost 1.5m homes could be built on brownfield sites in England, report finds

This shows the reality of our dysfunctional housing market.

More action on brownfield could help resolve the housing crisis.

We are disappointed to read this, and hope that @LancashireCountyCouncil will not do the same, as climate impacts are the biggest threat to countryside. In this context, scrapping the climate change declaration is just dumb and risks previous investment. Boo!

Last week, Housing Minister Matt Pennycook referred to our State of the Green Belt 2023 report, which in Table 1 shows Green Belt approvals in 2021-22 were almost ten times that in 2009-10. We must focus more effort on brownfield land to resolve housing shortages.

The Planning & Infrastructure Bill is out today. Is it the change we were promised?

My first impression is that reducing opportunities for public engagement at the initial stages of DCOs is poor practice, in fact, anti-planning.

Interesting to learn more about challenges farmers face. We support a just transition so farmers are supported to deliver public goods. Access to land, nature recovery, slowing the flow, protecting peatmoss, let alone producing the food we eat.
Our latest report features the stories of 6 farms we visited across England navigating the agricultural transition.

Informed by these visits, we outline the key challenges for farmers and how the government can evolve its agricultural policy to support them through the transition
